My friend Jack…

Jack Whyte with friends Anne Perry & Pamela Patchet…is in hospital today, having surgery on his lung.

[He speaks about it here on his blog…]

Jack Whyte is a brilliant storyteller, and one of the sweetest, most generous writers I know — always a kind word of encouragement to other writers, ready to lend a hand — or raise his voice in song — whenever needed. We have worked together for more than a decade, supporting new writers, and Jack has offered his time, his money and his heart.

He has meant so much to me in my writing life; as a mentor, a champion and a friend.

So, here’s my thought: If you’ve ever read one of Jack’s brilliant books, heard him speak, or listened to him sing, how ’bout sending a surge of any good karma you might have hanging around in his direction today? You can send out your love and admiration to him on twitter at @authorjackwhyte or send him an encouraging thought by email at his website camulod.com

Today is a good day to share the love.

So, I’ll start, okay?

I love you, Jack. Get better quick as ye can!

UPDATE: December 12:

Jack’s webmaster Mark posted a brief update here: http://camulod.com/node/1642. In essence, it notes that Jack has been in hospital longer than expected, but will be heading home in the next day or two. Keep sending that #LoveToJackWhyte out into the universe!

WORDWORKS Fall 2012 Now Out

This is the end-result of a project I worked on earlier this year for the Federation of BC Writers.

I guest-edited this issue, with a focus on writing for children and youth. This meant collecting contributions from a lot of amazing writers, as well as interviewing and collating the material before putting it into the talented hands of Margo Lamont and Susan Grieg, who magicked it into the form you see right here.

It is loaded with insights and information from a ton of amazing writers, and I know you’ll enjoy it.

Remembrance Day, 2012

Harking back to a post that took three days to complete in 2010… We’re about an hour away from 11 am here, so I hope you’ll take the time, click through, and honour these lives by reading of them again.

Remember part 1

Remembering part 2

Remembering part 3

And the final names added to the list in 2011 can be found here: Remembrance, 2011

If you know one of the families of the fallen soldiers here, please thank them for me.

And hold your own close today.
