You DID it!!!!

Maybe not every goal was met, but many, many successes were had this month. Augustus is blushing  to the roots of his hair with pride! [Okay, so his hair is blushing, too… my p/s skills are not the greatest.]

So…here are the successes I know about:

  • Deniz B. finished a short story
  • Shari G. finished her first draft
  • Deb A has written 10,000 words and is closing in on the end of her draft
  • Deb also got her daughter safely married off — no small feat in a crazy-busy month!
  • kc got two rooms cleaned out AND made headway on my work-in-progress
  • J. Colyer body-slammed her goal EARLY
  • James M made huge strides toward his word count goal
  • Kathleen L finished the story she was working on
  • Tricia B nailed her first draft with a full day to spare!

HOORAY ALL!!!! Take a minute to just bask in the glory of accomplishment. If you listed a book you’d like to receive as your prize when we began a full month ago — I’ll be emailing you to get your deets. Way to go!

But who have I missed? Scott? Tyner? Lois? Jacquie P? Bonnie N? Katherine W?

There’s a bunch of you I haven’t heard from yet. If you didn’t quite get where you wanted to go, don’t fret. Every single participant made forward progress toward goals big or small. So share the joy!

Now here’s the important bit:

The idea of #ProjectAugust was to do find a fun way to motivate ourselves through the dog days of summer. But a very cool side-effect is the benefit to some others who can really use it. So, just to be clear, let me state this again:

EVERY goal met, big or small, weekly mini-goals included, means a donation to the Thistalalh Library in Bella Bella. This small BC town has been beset with hideous challenges lately, from losing their library to fire, to vandalism at the school. On behalf of #ProjectAugust, I’m sending a big box of books made up of a title for every goal achieved, PLUS a cash donation [$10 per mini-goal] to the library. The books will be my own titles plus a few others, and I’m hoping some of my writer buds will kick in a few titles for kids, too, so we can send a honking big box of word love to the folks up north.

So please — let me know your successes big and small in the comments here, or over on twitter or Facebook so that we can finish #ProjectAugust in style! I’ll take a picture and upload it here when I’ve got the box ready to go.

Thank you for taking part — none of this could happen without your interest and HARD work. I feel so happy to have been a part of such an amazing crew. Well done!

More soon…

  1. Thank you! #ProjectAugust motivated me when sun and fun lured me. I just rolled over the 100,000 mark on my novel, and figure a couple short scenes and I'll be done the FUGLY draft (First Ugly Ghastly Longwinded Yeanling draft). And I could not be more thrilled!!Thank you kc. You ROCK!<3 Deb

  2. You're awesome, kc! What a wonderful thing to do for the library. That poor town has sure been hit hard of late.I really appreciated both the challenge and the encouragement to help me reach my goal. And I'm SO HAPPY to have a completed first draft! Thank you so much, kc.

  3. I think what you are doing is great. I thank you for reminding me to keep going and to acknowledge what I do complete rather than looking at what else there is still to do. I also thank you for how you are using this project to help those in need. I applaude you for this even though I know this is not why you do it. It just is who you are. Bonnie

  5. Awesome! Thank you for the wonderful incentive to motivation!I finished my story, submitted my story, submitted my novella to an imprint, and got my first 10,000 words typed in the next story. Whew! After a few months of feeling like I wasn't accomplishing very much, it's nice to have some momentum again.Congratulations to all the Project Augusters!

  6. Hey KC,Might have missed me within the new twitter interface. Actually my media/tech guy had control of my twitter/blog et al at the time and just answerd you politely after you and I had talked about goals. But in that polite answer was the impression I was in. So I was in. Lol. When I got control back I hash tagged my progress and finished just under the wire. Total server move and preliminary website created to address security concerns. An article posted on my website and blog about Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Canadian first responders. Despite being subject to a gag order about discussing work related topics. Made it just under the wire. Thanks for the deadline. I work so much better under pressure. Great project.

  7. This was a great idea, KC. I didn't make my goal of 50,000 words – only about half of that, but I am still thrilled with the progress (and more realistic about what I can actually get done during a month with a family vacation partway through). I also finished and submitted the two short stories…and I've already been rejected and have resubmitted. :-)Thanks for the motivation. Please excuse the tardy check-in.Katherine
