Welcome!

Well, here we are. Brand new website [almost a year in the making] and a new location for the blog, too. I’m pretty chuffed to be here, and anxious to hear your thoughts. Going to celebrate, too, with a contest, in the next day or two once all my loyal readers have found their way over here.

…but to inaugurate the day, I think I’ll share with you some shots I took Saturday morning, when a pod a dolphins come to call.

For the first time in living memory, a pod of pacific white-sided dolphins swam into Howe Sound, right off Lions Bay. Peter and I took the boat out and found them, at a distance. We turned off the engine to get pictures, and they came over to swim around and under our boat before heading off to the Pam Rocks to engage in a visable feeding frenzy.

It was breath-taking.

The surf scoters thought so, too!

You can find more pictures of the dolphins and the surf scoter ducks at my Flickr page. [If the link takes you to the general page, just hunt for the set marked Dolphins!].

More soon — and welcome to my new world!

  1. Okay, first of all, the dolphins are amazing. AMAZING! I remember going with friends to fish just off Marblehead and whales showed up at the side of our boat. I just about died from happiness, right there in the boat. I had an almost overwhelming urge to just jump in and take my chances. What a treat to have DOLPHINS so close to home! Second, I didn’t know you had a boat. Third, there is a place called Pam Rocks? Seriously? Because I must go to there.Fourth, are you sure those aren’t Surf Scooters? Because Surf Scoters makes me think they should be wearing kilts and smoking cigars. (d & r)I’m LOVING this new website. Very nice indeed.

  2. Thanks Tanya and Deb!And dear ANW — perhaps they are scooters…they should be, from the way they move on the water! But when I looked ’em up, there was only one ‘o’ in evidence. I suspect it is pronounced ‘Scoaters’ rather than ‘Scotters’, but would love to have an Expert weigh in!So glad you like the site. I don’t have a boat, btw. However, my son and his dad have one. I hitched. [g] You can too — you’d love the Pam Rocks. Next visit, okay?~kc
